Let’s unveil more dark secrets about Apple Inc.
Do you believe? Apple has a secret police. The company named it ‘Worldwide Loyalty Team’. The job of the secret force is to protect the secrecy of Apple’s products and also to avoid any leaks. The force monitors the employees 24/7, even if the employees are at home or anywhere else. When Apple started manufacturing its products, all the employees involved have to submit their phones for inspection. But it is also reported that many times Apple has crossed its boundaries and broke the rules of a friendly inspection. If there is any leak, the team takes every measure around the world to find the culprit. All the employees have to volunteer for this team. In 2011, the force mimicked itself as the San Francisco Police and raided a suspected house having an iPhone prototype.
Apple does not compromise in dominating the tech world and even if it is at the cost of their employees. The workers work 12 hours shifts for just $2 an hour. There is only on holiday every 13 days.
Apple has often been in controversy for abandoning the health and safety of its workers. According to the company, it actually cares for its employees. But on the other hand, due to a chemical used in iPhone’s production, at least 10 workers were diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. The workers call their work places forced labour camps. In 2010, 14 suicide deaths of the employees were reported at Foxconn, a Chinese company who manufactures Apple products.
As discussed above, due to unhealthy measures, factory workers were diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. Cancer caused by the manufacturing of Apple products. Some of the workers have to work the whole day to polish the Apple products. Apple does say that it cares for its employees but these facts show the other side of the story.
The Apple Symbol
The ‘bitten Apple’ logo is still a mystery. It was initiated as Apple’s official symbol in 1976. It had rainbow colours in it and a bite on the right side. According to one Apple executive, the logo indicated something dark in it.
Apple has a clever tax management system. According to sources, Apple has many offshore companies. These companies help Apple to avoid billions of money in taxes. In 2013, a U.S. Senate Committee found that Apple had avoided billions of money in taxes for 4 years. Apple hasn’t declared any tax residency in any part of the world. It is reported that Apple has established three entities in Ireland to avoid tax. Apple represented these three entities having no home country for tax payment. Maybe the reason to choose Ireland is because the tax rate in the US is as high as 35% and it is a mere 2% in Ireland. These three entities hold more than 60% of Apple’s profits. This clever move from Apple enabled it to gather billions of money in cash and securities.
Toxic Waste into the Environment
Apple also faced much criticism due to environmental issues. Many Chinese environmentalists have condemned Apple factories like Foxconn and Unimicron. These two companies dump chemical waste into the Huangcangjing and Hanputang rivers. A large amount of chemical waste of Apple products is emptied into these rivers twice a day.
Steve Jobs (Not a Jolly Fellow)
Apart from his creativity and genius mind, Steve Jobs was considered to be a ruthless businessman. Apple was the top priority for him. In the earlier days of the company, Steve Jobs ditched his friend, Steve Wozniak. Despite that Wozniak founded the company along with him; Steve Jobs still ditched him for money. After going public, he also refused to give a stock to his friend and Apple employee Dan Kottke. In 1997, after his return to Apple, Steve Jobs closed down all the charity programs of the company.
Apple slowed down its iPhones
Apple’s latest fiasco happened a few months back when it deliberately slowed down some of its iPhones. By doing so, it compelled its users to buy a new iPhone. Apple slowed down the older iPhones through software updates. Though Apple did issue an apology the damage to its consumer base had already been done.
Apple has always been in a cold war against its rival, Samsung. Apple also attempted patents like one tap enlargement, screen locking by swiping, and square icons to denote apps. We can call it modern day bullying.
